Good post, but lacks some very obvious material - Pantera, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Sepultura. At least you didn't miss Slayer. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Generally speaking, I call "Heavy Metal" stuff that sounds a bit like Metallica's music on Justice for All and later albums.

Motorhead, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath etc.. I just usually wanna call it Hard Rock.

That's what I've been saying, people like what they like. Both of you are correct. Glad you calmed down.

So you are into the "relative truth" thing, eh? No wonder your posts are so upset all the time and filled with psychological projection. Poor fellow [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

We're already in agreement for the most part, apart from modern hybrid punk, which imo is not really punk rock. Punk mostly died in the 80's, it was an underground movement for the time, not so much a commercial thing.

There are a few bands remaining, but not really with the original message, they are more focused on just life transitions with F* govts not so much there any longer. Some say sell outs, eh.. Most of the bands were baby boomers, anyway.
Metal was always 100% commercialism, gluttons of the system for the most part.

I used to listen to a lot of Scandinavian metal like In Flames, Soilwork, At the Gates, Children of Bodom, The Haunted, Opeth, etc. In Flames is radio rock now, Soilwork is still putting out good music, Opeth is prog rock now but still good. Most of the bands listed have been around since the late 80's so it's hard to not evolve your sound when you've been around that long. Most metal I listen to these days is progressive/jazz influenced stuff thats instrumental. Can't really get into the metal screaming anymore.

Plini, Sithu Aye, Chon, Widek, Jakub Zytecki, and Polyphia make some pretty good music. Oh yea and Intervals, Animals as Leaders are also sweet. Periphery is good, except their singer is terrible. If you can find the instrumental versions of their songs on youtube I'd recommend that.
