Had something similar happen with a gnome in EC named Subpeona (sp?). He asked me if I had any plat or items for a new player and I almost gave him some but didn't have much on me at the time and I don't have much excess plat anyway since I only been on the server a few months. Like 10m later I see him auctioning all these high level items. I send him a tell that says, "that's a lot of nice items you got there for a "new" player" and his response was that he's just selling the stuff for a friend...riiiiiiiiiiiighhhht. What a scam artist.

lol confirmed, same dude begged me for plat and was selling high end equip, that was usable by his class, that he claimed his brother gave him to sell. Still gave him some plat, told him i knew he was a no good shit dick liar as well tho.

I'm so jaded by this that from now on if anyone asks me for handouts, I'm gonna link them the gear I would have given them, equip it, suicide and then let them watch it asll rot.
