Until it's fixed, my suggestion is this.
As soon as pet leaves your line of site you call it back to you.
If it doesn't come back immediately reclaim or /pet go away.
If you get a message saying this can't be done invis yourself immediately to kill the pet. Occasionally you will get lucky and it hasn't agroed anything yet.
It sucks but it beats dying. Usually if you call your pet back the moment it goes through a wall it will come back to you, but if you wait a couple seconds invis ends up being the only solution. Earthen Boots should be a godsend to you mages right about now.
