Maybe he just wanted to get out of the pool as fast as he could..
Holy shit. What the fuck is going on down there?

Said it better than I can

"I cannot begin to reconcile why the IOC continues to chose host cities that are unable to prove any ability of obtaining a basic standard for visitors and athletes. Bejing was a complete joke. The government had to force factories to shut down, ban workers from travelling to their jobs for weeks and months, and forced thousands of citizens into their dirty waters to scoop out weeds weeks before their games. Rio, lacking the authoritarian government, hasn't managed any of what Bejing did and our athletes will be swimming in raw sewage as a result. Could you imagine ANY of this happening in countries like England, France, or the US?"

Ditto on that sentiment. These are American citizens lives we are talking about. This force-feeding of the 3rd world needs to stop.

Scary truth is that Brazil didn't have the authority to even begin to clean anything. That would be terrifying to me as an athlete. Phelps wanted to get out as fast as possible is right.
