They should open a teams server that wipes every 6 months by its self . ( not triggered by staff because we would wait years for them to do it ) and that server would thrive and create lots of donations for rogeans llc

This sounds intimidating and exhilarating.

How often do people create EQ emu servers? Do we think someone will make an item loot PVP server sometime soon? It would be cool to see how it goes.

Honestly, I would bet the interested audience would be a smaller pool than that of Red99, but I could be wrong. Maybe if the PvP scene on such a server was hot enough, it would exceed Red's population.
I've always been biased towards item loot because of playing on Rallos when it first opened, but honestly, having seen how small the remaining PvP community is for this game, and how many people avoid PvP here even without risk of item loss because of the time lost due to CRs alone, I'd say the interested player base would be pretty small.

Rallos worked because of the multifaceted community, with pks, neuts, and anti pkers offering a little something for every play style. There just aren't enough players left to recreate that same social dynamic.

The only way I think an item loot server would work would be either a Discord ruleset server with perma death, quick xp, full item loot and a consistent wipe cycle in place, or a regular PoP-era PvP server with item loot enabled. I think the abundance of PvE content coupled with the AA system in place to keep players of all walks interested in bettering their character past max level would draw a fair crowd.

I can't get a reply from Rogaine about getting behind using kickstarter to fund and incentivize him financially to launch a new PvP server, so I can't imagine it's coming down to money at this point.

I just really, really hope that one day, when they are done working on these servers, they release the source and database so that other people can host servers based off of the hard work that went into p99's accuracy. But I doubt it'll happen.

It also isn't just about the satisfaction of griefing, it is about risking something. If you are scared to risk exp for a camp then it adds another dynamic. Right now you can just throw yourself into any situation with no consequences. PvP with no risk of loss is a watered down system.

If you had consequences in the game for death then people would defend people more often and the game has more meaning. On RZ live PvPers were basically villains because the consequences were so steep. Exp loss is minor and it's sad this server can't handle some sort of consequence when it is free and an emulator full of players that know how the game works.
Losing xp is much, much harsher than losing one piece of gear. On RZ i would basically wear nothing but no drop and looting bods often gave out nothing. "Steep consequences" You dont know what the fuck youre talking about. Being relatively new (i joined server in early velious), i was a bit less squishy wearing 8-9 pieces of no drop gained through events against hard twinks and i could try to fight em, three, five times if i wanted without losing much more than time (which is still some kind of consequence). Regular No drop events would be key to make a loot drop server work. Exp loss doesnt make people wanna fight back when they get crushed by a zerg 10v3. It makes them log off. This is exactly what happened here. I think its funny to see people not being able to remember thats the reason the server dipped into single digit pop and population rose again when Rogean took it off. Its clear as day. Or theyre just trying to troll the staff into one last grief-o-rama before they ditch the game. Or its a laughable Bazia/Chewy im-a-manly-man-man-xploss-gives-you-hair-on-your-chest-Id-rather-have-a-twentypop-server appeal.

Xp loss also tips the scales way too much in favor of people who already know the ins and out of EQ combat. It gives less EQ-familiar crews (which incidently are often the ones getting beat on by better players with better numbers) no room to practice pvp. What is there to do when youre in crushbone and theres an unbeatable twink who makes you eat xp loss repeatedly? At least with no xp loss you can practice pvp. What risk is there when youre a fungi-wearing rogue in unrest with an epic? More often than not, you wont die and kill rag-wearing newb xp groups. Losing gear moves most of the risk to the twinks.
