Altari's point was fundamentally stupid. 10 time out of 10 people that app to raid guilds do so for raid kills and raid items. That's why they join.

10 times out of 10 they leave within 6 mo unless they make connections with people they enjoy hanging out with.

WoW has an option setting for raids called Personal Loot, after years of dkp, raid attendance, loot councils, cliques, and all the bullshit that goes along with guilds it's pretty refreshing. When you kill the raid mob the game rolls for you whether you get loot or not.
