he killed some empire warm body who had 30k on his character, it was an elaborate plan that came into play to get this done of course but clearly it wouldn't be illegal on a pvp server to kill someone, or am i wrong here? the rules are very fuzzy at this point

He'll be out on appeal.

If the person who handed him the stone was:

1) In PvP range, and

2) Knew Salaryman had previously taken items that did not necessarily "belong" to him

3) Was familiar with Salaryman's reputation as a paladin of Prexus, furthermore Odus

4) Pressed "trade" on an extremely valuable item, without explicit /tells confirming the nature of the transaction

Then it is up to the community to settle it. Salaryman is a very active player and member of the community with high play time, and is therefore prone to player-made sanctions and community action.

The grieved party needs to have evidence proving Salaryman entered into a written agreement to loan his manastone to him. Where is the proof that Salaryman did anything other than ask for a manastone, and then received one?
