Default So im reading up on SOE's progression server

I'm gonna go other there and fiddle around for a month or so. I decided to read up on the hubbub.

These knuckle heads are going to lets monks have their current damage table.
This will put monk fists at 20/26 at level 50. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Apparently mages and necro pets will be super boss too.

Its going to a cluster of a fuck again. Why must they do everything half asses?

Many things like items, spells, AA's(when they are available), zones, npc models, etc. WE cannot change part of an item, spell, aa, or NPC on just one server. We can make an NPC not spawn, but we cannot change particular elements about it for just one server. We did get a way to remove a whole drop table on just one server TYPE (not individual servers, but progression server is a type of server.)

· 'Is there a compilation that includes all expansion I can buy' The House of Thule expansion will actually get you ALL expansions

· 'Disciplines' You achieve disciplines as you achieve them now if you started a new character on any server

· 'Veteran Rewards' Vet Rewards will be delayed until the expansion near where they were first released

· 'Mercenaries' Mercenaries will not be available until the expansion that released mercenaries

· 'In regard to boats' That is the sort of thing that is universal data. So the boats will be the boats If translocators are there on normal servers they will be on progression just in case boats act wonky

· 'In regard to spreading the word about the new progression server' We also re-activated all old non-banned accounts that allow us to send them email. These account will be active and free until the 21st, and longer if these folks re-subscribe. In the email we mentioned the upcoming progression server

· 'Do you need all the expansions to play on the progression server' You only need the expansions you want to be able to access

· 'Clarification on zone changes to art etc.' Zones where the ART was redone on the zone will have the new art, Zones where just the NPC population was changed (A few examples are Cazic, paw, hole... these are just examples, not a complete list) will have as original as we can get it, and then change over when the appropriate expansion is unlocked. So it is the new Freeport, misty thicket, etc. But it is the original Cazic, and Hole. Paw is actually the "Second" set, but not the third (current) set.

· 'Will Soul binders remain in each city' Yes. We decided that we did not need to punch tanks this way. Soul binders are staying.

· 'When fabled gear goes into regular servers are steps being taken to make sure it does not hit the progression server' We made an attempt to also restrict this. We are human so of course may have missed something, but we did go through and restrict all we could find. They will not "Fable" until the appropriate expansion is unlocked, AND it is the appropriate time of year.

· 'Please put corpse runs in the game' We plan to put this up to a vote ASAP. (and a progression server only vote at that) Unfortunately it is too risky a change for us to slam it in, AND I am not convinced that we have a true representative sample. These would be the true original punishing corpse runs where if you don't get your corpse in 7 days, you lose your items.

· 'In regards to zones that have updated drop tables such as Clan Runny Eye drops of Black Iron vs Black Alloy items' We are trying to catch most of this. I will have someone look at this particular case since you brought it up. Swapping drop tables IS something we can do in 99% of the cases.

· 'Will monk ratios be returned to original and will coin weights return' Monks will have the new ratios, and coins will continue to be weightless

· 'What about trade skill trophy's' The NPC's that offer those trophies will not spawn until the appropriate expansion

· 'What items are being removed from the SOE store for the progression server, like 20 slot bags can you still buy those' MANY items are removed from the store for Fippy. It is a rather large list, so I will not go into it all. The large bags will not be available until HoT unlocks. The experience potions will be unlocked at different times. The Type I potions will be available at launch, the II and III will not. Most anything else, if it gives a stat or a buff with any type of stat has been disabled and will be enabled at an appropriate time. Things that are JUST looks will stay.

· 'What happens when you die' You can hover like now. This MAY change if we reinstate full corpse recover.

· 'When Kunark launches will the dragon scale conversion quest still be there' I don't know I expect the conversion quest will be there if it is in a zone available at that time.

· 'Can anything be done about monk fists 20/26 will be ridiculous at level 50 nothing like that will exist until PoP' This is the type of data that is global. To change this we would change it on all servers Similarly, SK Death Touch will be high for the time. And Mage Pets will be very powerful (probably necro pets)

Basically the camera view when you press F9 once.... with a small box with two choices: return to bind or accept a rez. It has a timer before it expires and you are sent to your bind point automagically.

What kind of BS is that global data? If it can only be changed for a server TYPE why not simply create a new type? (i.e progression2).

Sony runs on Oracle. More-over, they mirror then snowball a base dataset for an entire group of servers in the same geographic location. Sony has always looked forwards, not backwards -- so there has never been a reason to isolate a single server or even add that type of functionality. Bloom filtering on their database is also enabled, so by that merit alone they have some neat optimizations in there that EQEMU won't have until someone moves it to Postgres (MySQL sucks, and it loses data.)

They also don't have data past 3 years old as policy. There have been too many changes, and its not mission critical to keep revisions with non-compatible databases and legacy features that aren't in your game anymore. They're running a business, not a hobby.
