Much of it is simply a love for the game. You see the majority of players on live played on PVE servers. Maybe because it was what the majority of live servers consisted of but the end results are the same; people wanting to remember and relive those nostalgic experiences.

Most folks appear to enjoy raiding to become better for the same reasons the guys on RED like to raid and become better. There is a basic desire in most gamers to achieve the best gear possible. Whether I am playing a single player RPG or Everquest, I am constantly searching for "the upgrade" if it is out there to be had, and usually take pride in eventually obtaining it. In BLUE's case that desire causes many man hours of camping that RED players love to poke fun at but you see if we were on a server with 70 players we could stroll right in just the same.

Now in the MMO scene this behavior is exacerbated by competition with other players and some folks like to just have bragging rights. ( I am not one of those ).

You cannot deny though that the numbers on RED in comparison to BLUE clearly state where the majority would rather play. Whether RED is a wonderful playground or not, many of us just have zero interest in attempting to pvp on a game that was not designed for such activity but rather added as a second thought just in case someone wanted to play there instead.
