Not sure what the politics / strategy behind doing that was.

I think you guys absorbing pandemonium may have pissed ppl off, but all out grief war is a poor strategic choice since the natural reaction would feed into empire upon collapsing.

I can't really comment as I wasn't there but there were a few new croots from the collapse so I'm sure there is another side to this.
i didn't really understand the logic behind it either. from what i understand and have been told by friends in <friends> the motivation was simply butthurt over the tmo leadership's decision to attempt to raid velious on release day instead of killing uncontested kunark dragons. which <friends> was totally right about, but from what i've heard the grudge continued. the pandemonium absorption is when it got really bad though, you're correct. after training us the day we absorbed pandemonium, <friends> core players were telling us in /say and tells that they would grief every single one of our raids until we disbanded. i could probably dig the quotes out of my log file but i don't think anyone on here needs convincing the <friends> core and leadership are scummy as hell (see: vapo trying to petitionquest me for pwning him on a lvl 52 cleric)

I don't know Smedy. I don't think it's dangerous levels of immersion that lead me to believe it was a multitude of variables that caused the server to be in the current state it is in. The least of all being Empire griefing people off.. Empire is simply a guild that since the beginning recruited a velious size raid force to kill the top velious mobs. Nihilum had by far a much more of a competition killing mentality than Empire ever has.

Open a second box that progresses to Velious and then after a year or w/e they merge and two established guilds go at it, then you get a fresh box after awhile and have a new fun box experience/seasons.

Pipe dreaming maybe but no guild will ever contest the #1 neckbeards here with the gear gap that Velious has. Empire could log off and a new guild wouldn't even be able to do what they did for a couple months if not more, plus they'd actually be griefing their progression.

Server looks in real bad shape from a PVP perspective though most people would just look at this shit and not start.

Plus it would give incentive for the BIS players to come back once a year and brawl it out with the new guilds, eventually you'd have multiple geared guilds coming to fight for the merge.

as a member of <empire> i'll just straight up say, it wouldn't be that difficult to contest empire on content. we give so little shits because there is no competition on the server and we have a very lax schedule. literally all it would take to create a guild to compete with empire on content is

- don't fill your guild with toxic players and social rejects so you can recruit over 50 players re:friends
- advertise and recruit offsite and on blue
- farm some epics and teach some new players everquest
- don't forumquest shit talk empire before your guild's even off the ground re:tiggles

like literally anyone could do it, its not very hard

Wrong, you don't speak for all of Empire, and if a new guild was starting to contest there would be people that would play all day to shit down their throats.

That's just EQ.

i never said i speak for empire? i was just saying "hey i've been to our raids, they're a lot more lax and easy to contest than all the excuses about gear gap on the forums would lead you to believe"

and ya i believe you. most of those players would be untagged friends alts tho.

I'll speak for Empire and say what Xaanka basically said is true. Though j wouldn't categorize it as easy. But its really not that hard. The good players that were part of the resistance never wanted to put in the time to build up a strong enough player base to contest. Empire leaves windows open to compete but no one is willing to out in the effort or show the necessary leadership. Too bad.
