This box trippin.

During my time on classic the looting rules went as such - if the item in question is an immediate, usable upgrade for you then you get to roll. It doesn't matter if the item is droppable; the act of actually equipping and using the item after looting takes priority over another class wanting to sell it. If you're the same class and you have a better item equipped than the one in question, you also don't roll! Again, the act of someone actually picking it up and using it right away takes priority.

NOW - if ALL members of the group have better items and wont be upgrading, or there is no class present to take advantage of the upgrade, everyone gets to roll for pp purposes.

If you had any objections because you were equipping your main or helping a friend or some shit, you let the group know ahead of time. Otherwise you = ninja

If a player really needed the item, I could see where it would be common practice to let them roll twice or to give them a slight advantage, giving +10 to their random or something, but you can't expect players to do that. No matter how hard it is, don't be a dick, even if you feel dicked over. Reputation and levels are more important than gear. Ruining the first just means it's going to be more difficult to accomplish the other two.

been a while since i've seen someone this angry because they don't understand there are literally NO camps worth anyone's time that operate NBG. i've lost rolls plenty of t-staffs and KC pipes.

do i get mad? yes.

do i keep it to myself? yes.

do i stfu, keep pulling and hope for another? yes.

this is how it works. i'm surprised you made it past 50 without realizing it.

I can totally see why you should be guaranteed the 30k loot by default, because after all, a totally useless pair of boots or gloves worth 400pp may drop for my class

I'd actually support a rage thread like this for KC pipes, and I'm sorry you've gotten screwed out of epic pieces by our wonderful community.

TStaff dropped for my group about 3 weeks ago. 6 of us rolled, I happened to win (playing my monk). I played around with it for a brief period of time before selling it. Unless its a guild group or group of really close friends, I wouldn't have let them do need before greed on an item like this even if it meant I got to win it. After winning the tstaff, I let the other monk in the group have my SoS (he had SoS and a crap offhand). He insisted on returning the SoS when he finished his epic, and used that SoS until about 3 days ago when he finally got his epic and sent me a tell to return the blunt.

"Need before Greed" is not really a fair loot system outside of guilds (people who work together for a common purpose) or a group of very tight knit friends who level together. The only really fair loot system is a straight up random. Statistically speaking, you will get your share over time. In my case, I had a string of extremely terrible luck for the first 8-12 months I played on this server ... lost a lot of rolls on gear of variable value. Over time, it averages out. Outside of those who RMT (and the vast majority of them will be and/or have been busted), most of the people who have a ton of plat or resources have simply played longer/harder than the rest.

That Tstaff is the most valuable thing I've won in 18 months playing on this server ... whatever funds I have now are the sum total of time spent accumulating 300-500pp vendor kunark armors, making potions on my shaman (100s made and sold painfully in EC), farming seafuries (ugh ... with a passion ... ugh), or velious gems I happened across in random xp groups or soloing the upper 50s to ding 60 on my bard.

When you join a group, expect ALL high dollar items to be greed rolled. Lower to medium value? Group may pass to someone who could use as an upgrade. Gems? Generally greed roll or alpha (if the camp drops gems frequently). Spells? Depends on the value, but for the big ones you can expect a greed roll even if someone needs (ie torpor drops, everyone gets a roll even if a shaman in the pickup group needs it).
