Someone generally well liked felt slighted and probably overreacted. Conflict resolution and crisis management isn't really what people like having to deal with when playing video games and that often leads to issues getting sorta blown off and/or minimized.

Followed by 25+ pages of back and forth between non-Empire members trying to stoke the flames and Empire members disputing the original claim and/or attacking the OP.

When I get attacked I calmly find a nice spot to die where I can easily see my corpse from far away, where no mobs path, preferably near a druid or wizard portal.
