I'd say I have an addictive personality, and it's my fault not a disease.

The problem is when you cut everything out you start to wonder what's the point of even living.

Moderation is tough to maintain.

people that tan every single day.
This releases natural narcotics (endorphins). It is considered an addiction by medical definition by any doctor who has read the literature.

Don't have the study off hand. They took 2 groups, one tanned for 8 weeks, the other did nothing.

They gave both groups naltrexone after the 8 weeks and monitored them closely for signs of endorphin withdrawal, and sure enough naltrexone instituted opioid withdrawal syndrome in only the tanning group.

Just thought it was funny you mentioned an actual activity that is proven by science to have the potential for addiction.

This man has obviously been denied a good education.

Nihilism is the path of the know-nothing and the unevolved.

Keep asking the above as your guiding question in life if you want to be a huge loser, and a hair less primitive than a caveman.

Addiction is initiated by bad decisions, but it's bullshit to say that something with crippling physical symptoms is in no way a disease. It's like saying a broken arm from wanton dangerous skateboarding doesn't count as an injury.

Nevertheless, another five-star thread from the SoRP.

Saying addiction is a disease is like saying that skateboarding is a disease. It's a conscious choice someone makes, knowing that there are potential consequences. Don't do an addictive substance and you won't get hooked on it. It's as simple as that.

People don't do AIDS repeatedly until they have AIDS.

Would have totally agreed with this pals thread if he had set aside any opiate/opioid medicahshuns.

You could get into a huge war about physical dependence versus addiction though, and this semantics battle on the medical description of what constitutes either is still as hot a topic as it was in the 1970's.

On relevant forums this alone generates 100 pages worth of posts per thread on that argument alone. It gets so heated I'm convinced people have been punched in the face over it throughout history on both sides.

Thank god we are on p99. Blessed be the SoRP.

And when it is prescribed to an unknowing patient from assault/battery injuries, or a sporting accident, or car accident?

Spoken like a true addict.

I'm not suggesting we kill addicts. I don't know how you came to that conclusion. I don't think we should waste time, effort, or medical supplies on people who overdose though.

Would you have pity for a crack dealer getting arrested for consciously choosing to sell crack? It's cause and effect, my substance abusing friend.
