With respect to Tuljin's and Waedawen's respective posts:

A related part of the issue I see, in general, is that a significant portion of the player base suffers from appalling laziness. I remember a couple months back I went with a group into Siren's Grotto with a cleric who--by his own admission--was tabbed out reading websites most the time. Guess what? We died and the Cleric actually had the gall to suggest we needed a /defensive Warrior (what a laugh). My same group, with a different (and more attentive) cleric, later went back numerous times without issue. Just yesterday I tried to join a small raid with a casual guild and...nobody seemed awake. Couldn't get a group invite, couldn't even get buffs...so I hammered out and did other stuff. These types of players aren't the sort of people who'll ever have much success pushing the envelope, nor do they have any interest in even trying. Folks can stick around in Karnor or (to a slightly lesser extent) even Sebilis and pretty much just phone it in. Chardok is of course disgustingly easy. Not only are Velious dungeons typically slower experience, but they're also tougher overall. The monsters hit for more than in Kunark, the environments themselves are harder (ever try to get some newbie up through Velketor? ugh!), and so forth. "Path of least resistance" definitely rules the roost here on P1999.

High-end raiding means nothing to me; I've no interest in it. Never have, never will. 75 people standing around flailing on some monster isn't my idea of a good time. Each to their own. Every person standing around in Temple of Veeshan waiting on something to spawn is a person who isn't contesting the content I want to do. Might as well be playing different games entirely.
