Though, the truth is we spend a lot more than 16% of our budget on defense, the numbers are really more like 19-22% but aside from that, the affects that the military spending has on all aspects of life, non military, are huge. The borrowing in order to spend so much on military, that affects interest rates for everyone, so YOU pay more because of it. The after effects of war on vets that we spend (not nearly enough) 4% of the budget on.

It really comes down to 30+% of our budget is dedicated to defense spending in one way or another.

Probably some special "ballots" added in to each county and/or destroyed ballots en masse ala the GWB election 2000 and especially in 2004 where they actually got caught in multiple states manipulating the outcome. John Kerry admitted he could have challenged and appealed, and admitted he likely won, but decided not to do so. No one paid attention to Kerry's own comments in 2004 so we still believe we have a democratic process.

Can't beat the establishment mafia. Trump would need to broker a huge deal with these men whoever they are to beat Jeb Bush for the nomination.

Jeb was already in the Hamptons getting the Wallstreet bank blessing at the beginning of his campaign, and we know hes already got the oil boys on deck. That is a lot of power with very deep roots. Trump using his own money looks silly in comparison, writing big checks doesn't stuff and destroy ballots.

A scaling system/electoral college is needed to keep plebs interested in the political process, as you can't claim democracy if nobody participates. You would lose legitimacy by default.

If they posted the real percentages every election by Total Vote (popular) without breaking it down by EC districts, or even by State/county, there would be a very big problem.

Instead of a 51-49 or 48-50 or 49-50 victory or loss, you would end up with 20-80, 15-85, and who knows, maybe a few 10-90 elections. Imagine how depressed, angry, and violently rabid this country would be without the EC keeping us all calm, giving everyone hope for next election. "Oh it was a close one boys! We got em next time!" easily becomes "I don't care lol we got smoked. Fuck politics"

Blood would run in the streets after every controversial/emotional Presidential election without the EC. It would change every facet of our society. Horrifying to think of life without the mainstream media spoonfeeding us post-election political opiates in the form of the "EC percent tally".
