Well I don't want to say "not classic", but from my time back in 1999 I seem to remember every rusted weapon could be sharpened into a tarnished one and that 26 was the number I had in mind before everything went trivial.
Anyone else remember it being that way? Good info though, and definitely in the classic spirit...I think I dumped points to get my blacksmithing up and skipped this part on P99, maybe I shouldn't have been so hasty [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Added this to the wiki.
Since we're on the topic, I'm not sure what the trivials are on ornate chainmail and I currently can't confirm trivials on silvered weapons. My smithing is at 177. There are no item pages for Tarnished Halberd or Tarnished Scythe, by the way.
