Nowadays I'd agree with you, unfortunately. BMW used to be the best driving experience, Mercedes always had the nicest interior and smoothest ride. Now I think they drive pretty similar and Mercedes still has the best interior out there. Not to mention you can get a pretty decently equipped brand new CLA for under 40k, good luck finding a new BMW even close to that with similar options.

Had a 740il back in the day. Huge but nice car. Problem is when the special fancy cupholder breaks and costs as much as a hyundai to fix
