While early indications suggest most of our playerbase encountered little to no difficulty, I do not believe our playerbase is representative of p99's potential player awe and therefore believe the project might benefit from an automated patch process. The question is, do we want more players? ^^
This was exactly my thought.

I recently tried to play P99 with my girlfriend (who plays other mmos like GW2 and TOR) and the process kind of highlighted how obtuse it was. The installation, forum account, eqemu account.

Then she finally gets to character creation where I explain that she cant be a catperson or a frogperson. And that annoying tutorial voice starts to play whenever she changes races. She's then thrown into a newbie town and forced to figure out how to get out. She chose an evil eurdite which means she was lost a good 15 minutes and had no idea that you had to ask the skeleton for a key. The client also crashed a few times in the process and the unhelpful tooltips/tutorial were showing up all the time.

In the end, it showed that the player base here is very accepting of bad user experience.

But then, that's old everquest. Those that play here know it's not going to be as easy as as playing a current mmo and theyre fine with that because they've already played old everquest.

After installing Everquest Titanium:

Did you have issues understanding the Getting Started thread? Did you require technical assistance, or were you able to figure it out yourself?

I'm interested to know how many players would benefit from an automated patch process.
Theres a little more to it than installing and setting up a commercial game but fortunately most gamers are computer nerds and can follow simple file/folder/directory instructions. I had no issues.

I had this exact same experience with my girlfriend. Are you me? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Personally, I had no issue. But, I've had to set up EQ & P99 a couple of times for technophobic friends of mine. So my vote goes to "needed assistance"
Yeah. This would help. The PC era of do-it-yourself is coming to a close. Steam is weaning the new generation away from such tricks. Nothing wrong with making the place more accessible.

If I wasn't big into cracking and patching PC games from 2002 to 2006 or so, the patching process for p99 would probably be over my head.

Yeah, I'm not often to be found using torrents et al, due to the perceived risk, I usually buy all my software, films, music because it feels the right thing to do and I like having original official products. Buying titanium wasn't an option. However, after a little diving through forums and enabling the built in iso mount feature in win 10 I was ready to go.

You guys being able to supply an official link to a titanium dl would be a huge boon, couple that with a patcher and I'd imagine a real surge in interest.

+1 vote for easier.
I know a few people that would play if the process was more streamlined.

A patcher definitely couldn't hurt but I don't really think the patching process is something thats going to stop a whole lot of people from playing. I think getting Titanium is the biggest hurdle for a lot of people. If DBG would let you guys distribute the client that would be the best way to make this server more accessible.

They don't even sell the client in any form now so I honestly don't see the problem people have with using an "alternative" source for it but there are just some people who refuse to do that even when all of the content on P99 is up for free download from DBG.
