It's only not classic because no one thought of the idea lol. I would imagine somewhere on a server there was something similar.

When they added chat channels (forget the expansion, post cIassic I think, Luclin maybe?) one of the first channels that appeared on Tunare server was specifically for requesting ports. (It might have been called "taxi", can't recall for certain.)

I have a reputation as a bit of a "good guy druid" when it comes to porting people and helping strangers out. I joined DAP about two months before I disappeared as I intended to retire Leth.

The only rule as far as charity ports involved not advertising it in your hotkey. I still port people regardless of whether they pay or not. I simply took the "donations accepted but never required" out of my seas of cheese hotkey.

I promise though, you can make bank regardless if what guild you're in. All about customer service and marketing ladies and gents. Have fun.

You can make a ton if you do transfer for people, too. I.e. move items from EC tunnel mule to a twink in Misty.

That's part of what I do as well. Especially when it comes to ikky alts, there's money to be made. Hell sometimes I just stick around and chuck buffs at ramp in Field of Bone.

I have never been a part of Dial a Port on my (now) level 57 druid. I tend to port under level 20 for free, and I've never charged anyone for a CR port. I find that if you offer good customer service (i.e. levitates, SoW, etc), make sure that you're available, you find people asking you to port them over and over. I don't advertise porting other than I take my /roleplay off when I'm available to port people.

I don't mind Dial a Port. I use them on my cleric all the time. I have never had a problem with any of them. I pay them reasonably for the service they provide. If you don't want to use their service then don't. But don't bitch about it here.

In my not too extensive career as a wizard on live I was always happy to port people for very small amounts or for free as long as I didn't have to do the running to collect them.

Since picked up a wizard on red since joining P99 and most people just naturally tip these days. I don't mind porting people around if it's quiet and they can't get somewhere - Euro hours gets a bit difficult if you hate boats.

There was literally a guild on Luclin called "Taxi"

As in, "Need a ride? Hail a Taxi."
