Time has come to do some cleanup on character data across the servers.
On August 23rd (Pacific), we will be doing a system-wide cleanup of
level 1 characters. All level 1 characters that have not been played
within 30 days from the date of the purge will be deleted. As GMs will
not be able to restore any characters that are deleted, please be
certain to log in any level 1 characters that you wish to keep prior to
the purge.

As someone who's just coming back , my two best friends and myself decided we were going to take a whack at it . We spent more than an hour the other night trying to find any names that would work that weren't absurd . One of us still ended up with a silly name ��.

Path of Exile made it so you could steal the names of inactive characters.

You simply create a new character with that name.

If the inactive character logs in again, they have to chose a new name.

Use it or lose it.

As I recall, they never actually pulled the trigger on that. I seem to remember the cut-off date coming and going, and there being a lot of conversation about how people still had inactive level one characters that should've gotten purged, but didn't.

Wipes of characters under lvl 10 who have not been logged in for X amount of time is classic and happened a few times that I can remember on live.
