If I were to say to you: "I hope you like your new dorm roommate," would I be endorsing rape? No, but I am speaking to you in a condescending manner as you are now trapped involuntarily in a less-than-ideal situation (no privacy in a dorm room).

Had the man come out and said "I hope you get raped in prison," it would be one thing. But you're reading FAR too much into this, especially considering the prison the person Smedley was talking to is in a country with a VASTLY different system of incarceration than found in the United States.

I would very much like one of our Scandinavian friends who play '99 to explain to you that the prison rape thing is not an issue in their countries*.

Smedley and I are both American. This might not be the case in your country but to say to a criminal that you hope for their cellmate to like them has one and only one meaning - anal sex, likely forceable.

And why is my assumption that Smedly is privy to common knowledge (rape-culture in prisons in Norway and Sweden is non-existent) worse than your assumption that Smedly was inferring "I hope you get raped" from his comment about his prison cell mate liking him?

I believe you care about this cause, genuinely care. I believe you are passionate about it and believe that the propagation of rape culture in the US and the world at large is a terrible thing. This is something on which we fully agree.

That said, I firmly believe that what you are doing right now is detrimental to that cause, that message and the people who spread that message. You are making yourself, and by proxy the cause, look like it is championed by people who do not wish to talk about the real culprits/incidents but instead manufacture reasons to become angry from any comment that could have remote possibility of being rape-related.

I find it unlikely Smed knew about the Scandinavian system at the time he sent the tweet, given his outrage about the sentence handed down.

I don't like rape jokes, particularly prison rape jokes, and I'm wholely convinced that was Smedley's meaning. That's the entirety of it.

Nothing to do with SJWs or whatever kind of activism you're assuming.
