I don't think an "even playing field" is in order. I just wanted to put my group's experience out there. I saw Loli somewhere in this thread earlier. I know of atleast 2 occasions where she broke up a group I was a part of. It doesn't seem like a big deal but when people's first experiences with PvP is (as a group) being utterly helpless to kill or hurt a single player around their level, it drives people to quit. You can say "just level up" or whatever but thats not the point. The point is this: Why would any person who tries out Red 1999 stick around when their first 20 pvp experiences went like one of the scenarios below: Killed before you had time to react. Faced a single person of the same level in a 5 or 6v1 and lost hard. Go to find refuge by a guard only to have a high level pull the guard, then get killed by someone lower level than you in just a few seconds. Killed repeatedly during a corpse retrieval. Unable to land a single spell, ever, on the guy attacking you. It leads people to think that the only way to enjoy a PvP server is to have amazing gear. Thats a huge barrier to entry. I don't know why your experience wasn't the same as mine, but this is how our collective experiences went. | |||
