Having never played EQ before this server, I've got to agree with Buellen. When I came to this server it was a god damn shit show for me. I was playing a necro without fear or root, just trying to nuke and pet down mobs for experience. I made it into the 20s after like half a year of quitting and coming back. The draw of this game is how unpolished it is, for me at least.
Because it's so unpolished it allows people to fill in the blanks for themselves. I would consider myself as someone who knows all the ins and outs, but there's still a lot of mystery here for me. There are zones I don't know the every nook and cranny of, and if / when Velious comes out I imagine everything I already know will be next to worthless. Solo and group mechanics will completely change with new magic resistant mobs, and increased HP values. Bottom line, play this server for what it is, and hope for what it could be.

I really really wanted the actual Kerra to become a player race. A race of nearly conquered tribal people trying to make an impact in the world. Also their character models are more interesting than the Vah Shir's generic cat people models.

Kerran are much more "generic cat" than Vah Shir... and they look like they're on meth.

i get what you're saying but its a slippery slope when you open up the gates to changes like that, and i dont think it should be done. this a server with CLEAR GUIDELINES for what staff do with it and where its going, and thats super important and gives us a level of quality that is set in stone. if they start making changes here and there, it just sets the precedent to make custom changes all over the place and suddenly this server would be a whole different beast.
the server here is going in one direction, and any exceptions to its goals should be few and far between. i could think of hundreds of changes that would be cool and maintain the spirit of classic eq, but if we start saying yes to those changes then this place will slowly lose its charm and its consistency. This mentallity you have is what has killed every single big MMO to date. the slope gets steeper and steeper as they make more changes, and it will always lead to things going too far. i much prefer this place where its set in stone exactly what is going to happen as far as features and content, and the price we pay for that consistency is that we include things that arent pleasant or arent good enough for some people. this is a server that came into being to do exactly what its doing, and it shouldnt be changed just because you think you have good ideas for it. we all have ideas for little improvements... this game is clunky as shit.... but this sounds like going into mcdonalds and trying to get the owner to talk to you because you think that they should have burger king fries instead.

This explanation of this server will help you. The people programming it don't care about you or how easy anything is.They don't care what makes sense. This is like a museum. If you want to go see what eq was like in 1999, play this server. otherwise don't.
Sounds harsh I know. Sony cleaned up the trash mobs drops and quests over the years they developed this game. This is a representation of before they changed the game we all fell in love with. Project 1999!!!!!!! It's in the name!

If you think this server is anything like EQ in 1999 you are deluded. I live this game and server, but it is not 1999/Everquest. It is, at best November 2000 Everquest but with a horrid economy and top-endedness. If we want to keep it alive after velious there is no reason not to do some small things that are in the right spirit.
