You are correct, after doing a little research on alla, old posts indicate he can despawn while engaged. My mistake

When I was killing this guy he poofed before I could finish him off. Do you have to kill him within a certain time limit? The first time I soloed him and he poofed, the second time A level 60 Enchanter buffed me up and he still poofed.
