Ehh, $15/month.. I'll pass.
I expect a lot of people to pass based on the fact it's behind the pay wall. All I can say is that I view it as a very big positive that people can't create multiple free accounts to do all sorts of shenanigans.

Also, you can trade in game currency for game time. For example, on the EQ progression servers currently you can get a krono (1 month subscription essentially) for about 1200 plat. Leveling up legit with my bro and cousin I just bought a FBSS for 2.5k among other things, I could have easily diverted that into krono and paid for my sub and both of theirs.

If you play a lot, you'll play for free.

As much nostalgia as goes around this place about different servers, one has to ask why don't they just play on whatever progression server exists for eq1. While I realize its not a wholly equal comparison, the reason is still very simple imo, that sony is still trying to cashcow eq1.

So why in the hell would I hook my utters up for a eq2 prog server? Equally preposterous, YOU CAN PLAY EQ2 FOR FREE RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE, and infact do the exact conversion you suggest within 'live' EQ2 after grinding long enough.

So I ask a very simple question, if this prog server is an interesting concept more than a PR stunt, why aren't you P2W EQ2 right this very minute instead of waiting until July 7th or w/e?

And I get what you are saying about farming, so bots won't ruin the economy or whatever, but still I think probably if most of the hype ITT thought about it they would realize they should just roll eq2 f2p for the lolz.

FWIW I prefer eq1 for nostalgia and bcause its so impossibly hardmode. I don't really get either from eq2 even though objectively it is a much better game.

EQ2 was just a different game. It really is an in between point between EQ1 and WoW. You can tell that conceptually the EQ1 dev team had influence, but it is also clear a different team more concerned with how WoW as grabbing up subscribers at a previously unseen pace influenced the game. A lot of the EQ2 style changes actually came to EQ to make the game more casual friendly.

A game like EQ1 will never be seen again. The frustrations (corpse recovery, difficulty, etc) was a unique event born partially of the DND culture and mostly because of the lack of competition. People pushed through the bullshit of EQ1 to understand how it made the game better, people nowadays would die once and quit forever.

EQ2 was sort of a happy medium. If you're a diehard EQ1 fan who can't appreciate the game universe you may not be happy with EQ2. But in the end, I thoroughly enjoyed it and only quit because I had nobody left around me. EQ2 features a more rotationally styled combat system sort of like WoW set in the world of Norrath. I still think they have one of the best class/subclass systems outside of Rift and the mentoring system (where you can "delevel" to actually group up and be challenged by mid level content, simultaneously helping yourself and you low level pals) was top notch. EQ2 got a lot right, but it came at a bad time and changed too quickly for even the diehards. A progression server is exactly what this game needs, and I would encourage people to at least check out the beta.

i beat eq the other day, didnt u hear? still loggin in for batphones tho.

also just resubbed eq2 tonight to get immersed b4 prog starts

after a night of grinding eq2 all i can say is WOW so many buttons. im at 4 hotbars at lv 25 and feel like i need more. really glad its limited to lv 50 on prog for a while just so i can figure out what my class is capable of. i do expect it to take that long.

tbh i could probably drop this heat vision shit off of there but you never know when im gonna need it.....

battlegrounds tomorrow dawgs. im gonna get rekt. i dont even know how to use the AA window yet. luckily no bg's or aa in initial prog, phew.

Didn't know they removed some of the faction restrictions, interesting. The mentoring system still in place? That was the one of the best ways I've seen in an MMO to play with pals who decide to show up to the party late.
and yes the mentoring system is still present. grouped with a scaled-down lv 95 earlier today. very odd/fun experience all things considered.

t-t-triple post

just fyi i dont recommend subbing until you run into a specific reason. i did so under the incorrect assumption that i would be able to play a beastlord, which was not the case

more than enough to do as a free account
