Haha, I know what you mean about the keyboard login procedure. I have noticed that at my school's wifi, I am able to periodically get to the server select successfully, but I have always then gotten the "Error in connecting to the server" message after selecting a server.

Now, when I am at home, I have similar errors with the server select screen, but I have never received the 'error in connecting to the server' message. I don't have an ethernet direct-port either on my Chromebook, so I am interested to hear if your results vary for direct-connect. If that fixes the issue, I'd buy a USB-ethernet adapter for sure.
