Red Awareness this double XP weekend...

Despite my initial reservations and repeated attempts to troll red threads I am actually enjoying myself on p99 for the first time in years playing red. Yeah a fungi twink did get me, but revenge was had the next night and it was quite satisfying.

As an ex Daoc player i was very interested in trying out eq Daoc. Me and some friends tried RZ out several years ago but We didn't get very high level.

I had rl family on red so they convinced me to try it we were leveling together in guk when I had my first pvp experience. We were all about level 8 or 9 and I could not for the life of me kill the shaman I was on. My cousin told me that she had a fungi. Then she sent me a tell complaining about our group getting some oor heals I was like wtf I'm naked and you're wearing a fungi and you're complaining?

Next pvp experience was in mistmoore at level 29. Guy named Spyt wearing fungi walks all over me still in mesh armor from lguk. Log out come back lfg again get called to mm for a pickup group some troll sk raid buffed in a fungi waxes our group , run back he's outside with a 60 shaman getting buffed in lfay and despite a oooc loot and scoot call rapes me naked. No big deal level past mistmoore.

Next stop com l50 I got some ok stuff now nothing spectacular but better than mesh. Fungi twinks less an of issue now right yeah except now they roll in rat packs of fungi monk twinks that camp bind spots. Honestly I made a lot of friends on red since starting and those are the worst of it but most people don't stick around after one or two experiences like that.

made a chanter on red. soloed to 14. rarely see anyone to group with. still naked basically, still using starting dagger. no thanks.

I'm debating if I want to join red or not.I've been weighing the pros and cons and need some help figuring out this last bit.

Is it reasonably easy to join a leveling guild? I'm not really interested in getting twinked, I'd just like people to play with.

I've got three newb Qs. I'll try to keep it concise but I drone on sometimes.

1) Ok, so I'm a loner... and a loners gotta be alone. How f'd am I? Can I wander the world following Sesserdrix's necro leveling guide (O, hey Misty bard), and generally be alright if I stay out of those popular zones like CB, etc? Or... will I be spanked wherever I go unless I make some friends to watch my back?

2) Is the community as bad as these forums suggest? I mean, listening to posts by guys like Colgate just make it look like a total cluster of angst and trolling.

3) Wtf does "Pras" mean? It's spammed all day in OOC and my only guess is its like some slang for "praise" as in, "I like what just happened."

1) How screwed is a loner? If I avoid contested zones like CB and do something like... follow Sesserdrix's leveling guide (Hello Misty and bards), will I be able to do my thing? Or will I be punked around wherever I go until I join some big guild?

2) Does the red forum community represent the game community accurately? Honestly, every time I see some trollish post by guys like Colgate I just wonder if playing with angsty teens is worth it.

3) Is it true that there was a guild called "Holocaust" on the server with lots of members named after nazis? It's stories like that which make me question how toxic the red community is.

4) Wtf does "Pras" mean? I see it spammed in OOC all the time.

Yea but with the standard xp bonus, if you are remotely cool tempered you'll notice 1. You enjoy the PvP breaks, winner or not and 2. I've never asked for a rez ever... PvP is fun, enjoy it!

Totally safe, though because of the XP bonus and the helpfulness that friends provide you in PVP environment you'll find that you enjoy leveling in the hotspots unTwinked more than hard-core soloing.

Yes and no, almost everyone I've met in game is totally different than their form persona. In fact Colegate is one of the most fair loot distributors, organized and nicest Raiders I've ever raided with

Yes and no again, no there arnt a bunch of characters name after Nazis. Due to forum drama rivals of the guild Holocaust made them out to be a bunch of Nazis so the funny trolls that EQ PVPrs are some may have rolled a character to just to rub it in the faces of their rivals. I've been a huge opponent of bigotry in the blue forms, I can't stand it, but if I can Hackett on red, anyone can.

It derives from the role-playing ogre usage of the word praise. It's a goog way to say grats on red.

Yea super easy to find groups even unguilded!

There are a couple low leveling guilds very active these days!

That's good to hear. I'll have to make a character tonight. I think I'll use blue for soloing and red for grouping.

Any directions for for guilds to look at?
