Not a single time. And I play everyday. (Yeah its unhealthy, I know.)

I think I'm just more of a guild person and I know not everyone is like that but it seems counter productive. The only drawback I could think of is if you had some aversion to guild chat and/or your guild chat is obnoxious.

Been in guilds like that so I get it but I really can't think of any true drawbacks. Only things to gain.
I think we are talking about two different goals that share similarities.

Leveling to 50 on red is a very short process that can be measured in weeks. That is a very small window to meet people from every guild in a neutral fashion and really learn what they are like.

If the goal is to level as quickly and efficiently as possible, sure a guild will help that.

If the goal is to find a guild that best suits you, then going it alone for a little longer will help that.
