Generally speaking, you want the quicker of the two weapons in your mainhand, assuming similiar damage ratios, to take advantage of the mainhand damage bonus. You want the best ratio in your offhand always.

If one weapon is significantly better than the other (12/26 and 8/20, for instance) You want the better ratio in your mainhand.

Hahah, yea he sorta chose numbers that aren't obvious. But for ratios, just divide the top by the bottom number. The best ratio is the one closest to 1.

For example, 12 / 26 = 0.46, and 8 / 20 = 0.4, so in terms of mathematics, the better weapon would be the 12/26.

Just to note, you don't start gaining mainhand damage bonus until level 28 (1 bonus damage every 3 levels beyond 28), so it's a pretty small factor compared to ratio until into the 40s when it begins to become somewhat significant.
