I still have the BFG on my character on live servers (veeshan/luclin) even though I haven't played him in over 10 years. But just to put my 2 cents in... There were many reasons why the quest was removed but they mainly took it out because we could move perma rooted mobs. For example: There were perma rooted giants that spawned for one of the coldain ring quests. We could knock these giants away from an area and easily solo that portion. However, some idiots would move npcs such as these giants as well as giants in kael to the zone ins to slaughter players.

I remember a guide friend of mine told me that another reason was because there weren't suppose to be any items with moving parts. These were reserved for special items such as Epic weapons.

Another reason is probably because at one point during a gm tournament in the arena, I knocked players including the GM out of the arena. He had no clue what happened LOL. Apparently this was unfair to the other opponents even though it took forever to cast and was resisted by those with high MR.

They nerfed the bfg a couple times too. The first time reduced the cast time since players use to be able to knock a mob back, nuke, knock back, nuke over and over without the mob touching you. Another time they increased resistances of mobs so that the spell would be resisted. We'd had to remove all our equip to knock players from isle to isle in PoA. Then at one point they either increased or reduced it's range (its a bow). I don't remember if using the bow could trigger the knockback effect (I was a pally so I didn't use it much.)

One of the funniest things to do with it was climb to a high place and blast yourself across the distance like a rocket. Back on Veeshan server, we all gathered in North Freeport near the bank to sell items and I'd blast myself clear across the area from atop of the bank. Other than that it's a pretty useless item but it was nice being one of the only players with one on the server. The hardest part of the quest was getting the planking. I spent literally 6-8 hours a day for a month trying to get it. Then one day when I logged in, it was sitting right in front of me. What made it difficult to get was sweedish players used ShowEQ or whatever to read the game packets in order to see where it'd spawn or if it was up. Plus getting max faction for Breezeboot was tedious too. I was hella worried I'd end up with a random weapon instead of getting the BFG so I maxed it out as much as possible. Good times... good times...
