To piggy back onto OP's thread, I created a monk and intend to tank for my group. I noticed that monks don't get a 'taunt' ability but someone in the EC tunnel said that monks can still tank because they have high DPS.

How viable will my monk be at tanking if we are grouped down in a dungeon? I know that adds will happen and there may be some messy pulls, how well can my monk maintain or pull aggro off of healers and such?

Thanks for any tips.

p.s. I'm only level 4 right now so I'm sure I'll naturally learn a lot as I level.
Monks are not tanks ^^ They are durable, but have no means of generating aggro other than their dps and proccing weapons. They are essentially like higher damage less durable warriors with no taunt for the purpose of tanking and will never fill that role in a raid situation.

At lower levels you will need someone to root mobs for aggro management unless you hold a significant gear edge over the rest of your party. The same is true for warriors at those levels though ^^

Monks typically end up tanking only when the tank leaves and the group cannot find a replacement or it is a small group duo/trio. It works in certain situations (and works well in those), but is more of an exception than a rule ^^
