Bard Song Mez and Enchanter Mez Question
Quick question. I (enchanter) was grouped with a bard today and he was pulling. We'd sometimes get multiple mobs on the pull and I was trying to lock them down as usual with enthrall as they arrived in camp. I got no resist message and the graphic *white light* effect would occur each time my cast landed. But one tick later the mob is back in action. There was no mez break message either. It's like it landed but didn't land. it was highly annoying to say the least.
Finally I asked him about it and I got the impression he was AE mezzing when he had a multiple pull (Kelin's Lucid Lullaby?). So ... does bard mez overwrite enchanter mez? Or was my mez not actually landing (even though I got no resist message) because he had the mob mezzed with the song? The mobs were not charmed because when he would charm I got the standard "immune to this effect" message. I thought a longer mez (enthrall) would overwrite a shorter mez (1 tick bard song) or be immune to be overwritten by a shorter mez so I was a bit baffled. Hope that makes some sense, thanks.

Long story short yea bard mez overwrites enchanters.

I believe it works the same way with roots, though I'm not positive if it's strictly duration-based or spell level-based in that case (i.e Enstill lasts longer than Immobilize but is a lower level spell, not sure which wins).

I know from experience that Mesmerize, Mesmerization, and Enthrall can all overwrite Entrance, even when cast by a lower-level enchanter, but when casting Entrance again on those same targets it will not take hold. When running mags on a single target, you can cast Dazzle -> Entrance -> Enthrall -> Mesmerize without issue, but if you try to do the same thing in reverse you'll get "Your spell did not take hold". I've wrestled too many times with CC in Fear/Hate not to know what mezzes will and will not trump each other across several levels. As for root spells, I'm a deal less certain. I know the level of the caster wins when casting the same spell, and that a shorter root can and will overwrite a longer one (there was an earth pet that spent all last night overwriting my Fetters). Unlike mezzes, you may be able to cast a longer root over top of a shorter spell already in effect. Beyond that, I won't say without testing more for myself.

What I normally do are one of two things.
1: I am the primary CC and do ALL of the mezzing (I prefer this in Seb or any fairly short range pulling camps) and tell the chanter to just keep a hasted pet. 2: I do NO mezzing at all, and I will snare the mob which keeps it from training people, keeps it off the chanter if the mob resists mez, and also slows the mobs attack speed so it is pretty useful. Then the mez lands, and I run off to pull more. If there is a crazy monk pulling instead and they like to bring 2-4 mobs, I use AE snare on them and kite for a few seconds until the chanter has them locked down. Doing either all the mezzing or none keeps you from messing up the chanter and works very well.
