All clues point to luck. They are unremarkable things.

And those plants in the swamp, as well.

Default BurgyK's Half-Hole-Troll Hypothesis of Animated Cactus Origination

I think perhaps the most persuasive evidence in support of BurgyK's Half-Hole-Troll Hypothesis of Animated Cactus Origination (BHHTH of ACO) is the indisputable fact that there is evidence of none of this above ground. The activities must therefore occur below ground. Autis observation that Cactus regularly demonstrates an affinity for the subject hole further substantiates this conjecture.

Other common knowledge supporting BHHT of ACO:

-both halflings and trolls share a fondness of green things
-halflings like to sleep
-shaman play an integral role in the manufacture & distribution of illicit substances in the Norrathian underground.
-both halflings and trolls are under-represented in the Overthere based on their representative percentages of the Norrathian population.
-similar to point 1 above, Druids and shaman both share an affinity for plants...

I agree more research is needed, but the evidence thus far is compelling.

This is actually a good comparison to draw. Mexican Jumping Beans are animated by larva inside the. (Which hatch and eventually I merge as disgusting little bugs if you keep them too long. I inclement lost one in its container only to find it years later with a dedicated corpse inside :/ )

Perhaps the cactus are infested with Fire Beetle larvae? Do we have any sightings of Fire Beetles in the area?
