I too am experiencing this problem. About 75% of the time I can't make it to character select without crashing or have a blank server selection screen, and almost always crash while zoning. Now at 200-400 latency.
This problem just recently starting(~1 week 1/25/2015) with over a year of no issues. I am using a standard Alienware X51 with the only modification being an SSD and a newer graphics card. -Intel i7-3770 -16 GB Ram -GTX 660 -64 bit operating system. I have tried the following with no success: -Restarting Computer -Restarting Internet(Router/Modem) -Trying either winEQ and EQEMU(Using the right click > Start EQ Only) -No loading art on zoning I refuse to badmouth the P99 moderators and owners because I know first hand how awesome they are and how they care for us(The community). And I also see that this is a very common problem, being a 29 page thread going back years. However hopefully my specs and list of things tried will help solve this eventually. So even though I already had V36 (The most recent distribution files) I re downloaded them again and it seems to have calmed(not fixed) my issue greatly. I am now at 85-140 latency and haven't crashed yet as of 3 hours of play. I would suggest doing this to try and fix.

We are having this problem now. Takes at least 2 hours for us to get logged in at times (not kidding), then everytime we have to zone, we freeze, go linkdead, and go about trying to log in once again. We get patch errors, blank server screen, blank screen that takes us back to the log in screen, or flat out refuses to even try to connect with the server. Every other game we have will open and run, but for some reason it wont let us into EQ [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] We got booted while zoning on the ship earlier.... Are our bodies going to be out in the ocean??? We flat out can not log back in...

I have the exact same problems. Occurs most frequently during peak hours, but can happen any time of day. Unfortunately I live in the last mile and DSL is the fastest connection I can get. When I do manage to log on, my pings are usually around 67ms, so not bad The problems only ever occur when the client talks to the login server. Spent three hours trying to logon to recover a corpse last night, most of that time spent trying to get passed all of the logon issues described by everyone here.

I too am using Verizon FIOS.
Empty sever screen. Crashes on zone. All that jazz. My ports are forwarded properly, so I know it's not that either.

Last night I went through and reinstalled every single one of my drivers. Motherboard, vid card, everything.
Seems to be working fine now! We'll see!
