partial quests or must do step by step?

I've never done the wizard epic so this is all new to me, but...

is a cool stick to get, could I feasibly go up to Kandin Firepot and hand him Mistletoe Powder & receive the staff or do I have to go step by step to the letter?

only need indif faction and the Powder to turn in for the Staff

nothing else required as Kandin is on TrueSpirit faction so you can either do some of the shaman epic OR do an invis turn in - your choice

Hmm I thought giving items to NPCs broke in is here... Or is that just hide? Now that I am thinking about it, maybe I am just remembering things backwards T.T

Doesn't break if you open a trade box and have someone else cast invis on you before you click trade.
