Just letting you know that an official magelo is still in the works, using a modified version of the system the other servers use. I would hate to see a lot of work put into this for it to become absolete.

Rogean, if you're still intending to integrate in-game with the official magelo/forums, it'd by far outdo this one Jet created.

I think that's obviously the plan and it's the same reason no one else can compete. Ie, no one else has the item DB and so the basson haste gauntlets not existing wouldn't be a problem. Also the stats are guaranteed to be correct, and you don't have to manually input anything, just click a checkbox to make your character public or something.

Rogean it seems like you have lots of good ideas but insufficient manpower. I see your first mention of the magelo system on 8-4 over three months ago. Why not recruit someone like jetviper, who obviously has the time, inclination, and skill, to accomplish this? For a dedicated dev with some time it's a matter of a few days, max, not months. (Not an attack, just saying perhaps you don't ask for help enough).

i did this in about 4 hours of work its not like its the end of the world

edit: id hate to see the development of a magelo from the database take away from content development =p

Many reaons...

 It's part of a larger system being implemented for total integration, control, and management between the forums and the game server.

I was going to also mention in my last post that we are also upgrading some server parts soon, including additional hard drives and raid controllers. It goes without saying that a database that a magelo feeds off of should never be the production database, but a replicated backup database which is already in place. The additional hardware allows the magelo system load to be isolated and not affect the production server performance. It's considerations like this that reinforce our server's stability compared to others.

Things like these have been set in motion for a while now. And the system currently in place is specific for it. It's basically proprietary, and training someone for it would be time consuming on my part anyways.

Also, the biggest reason left for last is the access needed to implement it. We're talking about total access to the forums and website database, and atleast read access to the game database. That's a lot of access to give to someone I barely know.

This would fall under the coding team and not content. Kunark development is primarily in content mode at this point.

man the funnest part of EQ classic was rolling up to some high level and looking at his 1337 gear and having no way of knowing the stats without asking since no online resources existed........now we're turning our gear into a facebook page.
