Now when I was in college I had a laptop stolen that was being lent to me by the school. I filed a police report but the cops don't investigate those kinds of crimes. Once the report was filed they filed an insurance claim, sent me a new computer, and I didn't have to pay for anything. So...
..was going to say this..

"lose" it imo (left it on a bus?). Don't use it to do anything high profile (MAC addresses can be a bitch) 'till their insurance handles it, quit, get your new job, and "find" it. Even if they find out about it, it's already been replaced.. ..and you have plausible deniability. Kind of.

I wouldn't claim it as stolen, that would involve police. Lying to the police is always sketch. They don't like it very much.
