Bank all your gear for the lower guk hand room part to reduce number of corpse runs risked. Keep an eye on / all gukbottom and do that part of the quest. When it is relatively full, and you can find people camping hand room (ask with /tell), then is the time to grab that rod and gate out.

The fun thing about the staff is you will get people asking how you managed to get your epic so early. For some reason people seem to confuse staff of the wheel with the epic.
