NPC Spawn Issue: An Odd Mole [Kurn's Tower]

Pretty sure this is classic:

We camped him for 6 hours...only killed him once. 2 times of the 6 he despawned at abount 1/3 health. We were rather upset.

There are a few in there that mention him despawing. Some say if you attack he won't, others say he will even when you attack. This guy claimed a guide told him it was a bug, but potentially a classic bug.
