Yeah adding on what everyone else has says. This is a very hard game, but Hasbin is wrong, it's a very fun game also. This game rewards even the smallest tasks. There will be some days where all you do is die and lose experience, and the day is a good day if you can even get your corpse back. But those are few and far between.

My advice is to stay close to your starting city if you can, learn the noob areas and try and figure out where everything is. Keep mental notes or even write down what certain NPC's sell or do. if you think about making a run to a really far away place, just consider where you are bound (where you pop up after death) and consider how hard it might be to get back to your corpse.

Quests are few and far between also, but there are some great ones. I rarely do quests because unless it's for a good item I feel my time is spent better grinding or grouping and getting to know other players. Friends are way better to have in EQ than in any MMO, so make friends fast and keep them.
