What do YOU think of when you hear the word "holocaust"?
jackson_goingham_goodwin Oct 7, 2010 When I think of the word “Holocaust”, I think of Hitler and more Germans working the Jews until they died. I also think of Germans brutally killing the Jews, and sending their population very low. When I hear the word “Holocaust”, I think of the gas chambers that the Jews were sent into, I think about how the Jews weren’t allowed to bathe or eat much if anything. I also think of the movie, “The Boy in The Striped Pajama’s”. The word also makes me think of how the Germans thought they were racially superior and if you weren’t exactly like them, you were worked to death and if you lived, killed. The word “Holocaust” makes me think of Adolf Hitler and how he brainwashed the Germans into making him the leader. It also makes me think of World War II and how Hitler made a huge German Empire and sprawled it out over Central and Eastern Europe. “Holocaust” makes me think of words like pain, suffurage, ignorance, and prejudice. It also makes me think of how he tried to make the perfect race, which is impossible, by attempting to exterminate the Jewish population. brenarob Oct 7, 2010 When I think of the holocaust I think of all the families torn apart by the concentration camps, I think of all the dead bodies laying in the pile when they died. I think of the little boy I saw at the holocaust museum he was so skinny you could see his ribs and back bone. I also think of Adolph Hitler and what really possessed him to do such a horrible thing to innocent people. I think of all the soldiers who just following orders and I think of the soldiers who enjoyed killing innocent people. I also wonder what people in other countries where doing while this stuff happened, why did It take so long for anybody to do anything about it. I think of how it would feel to live in a concentration camp and how horrible it would feel not knowing if you where going to live to see the next day. I wonder what it going to take for this not to happen again so nobody else dies from such a bad thing. I also think about those who hid the Jews from the Nazi soldiers and how brave they had to be to do such a heroic deed. When I hear the word “holocaust” I also think about the Star of David and how the Jews were made to wear them on their shirts, I also think about the concentration camps and how brutal they were. The two main things that bother me the most when I think about the “Holocaust”, is the six million people that were said to be killed during this tragic incident. The other thing that bothers me the most is, when I think of Hitler and how he was so mean, inconsiderate, and cruel to those innocent people that did nothing wrong. To me, the holocaust will always be remembered for it’s tragic deaths and how cruel the Nazi’s were. I also think about The Diary of Anne Frank, when I hear the word “holocaust”. I think about how Anne and her family and friends had to hide from the Nazi’s for a long time in a very closed in area. I also think about the museum I went to in Washington DC and seeing the people’s shoes that were burnt and getting able to get a card and see if your person lived or not monilcot1 Oct 7, 2010 When I hear the word holocaust I think of tragedy because that’s really what it was. Everybody always thinks that it only involved the Jews, when really it involved people who didn’t follow or believe in the Nazi’s decisions: Communists, Gypsies, Jehovah Witnesses, or Homosexuals. I think of how Hitler and the Nazis were trying to brainwash the Jews into thinking they were going to live better lives when really the concentration camps were another way to really say death camps. I also think of the Greek meaning of the word Holocaust: “sacrifice by fire.” I think of how ignorant and simpleminded, not only Hitler was for killing his race, the people that followed and believed in what he was saying. I think of how it really is not just Hitler’s fault but anyone who had anything to do with it also. I think about the little children and elderly that was manipulated and told they were going to get showers when really they were walking to their death room. I think of how little babies were thrown up in the air and shot at like targets. I think of the endless amount of shoes that were left behind, or the stacks of hair that was left. There were over 6,000,000 Jews that had their lives taken away from them and had no word against it. Hitler’s plan was not to just exterminate the adult Jews, Hitler’s plan was to destroy ALL of the Jewish people. Even though some survivors made it out alive, they will never forget the horrific life thy once loved through. The holocaust makes remember how much of a powerful speaker Adolf Hitler was and how he used this quality in the wrong way and to change the ways of Germany. Hitler used this factor to obtain many followers (Nazi) to help him try and kill off the Jews. The holocaust also makes me think of how happy and fortunate I am to have a great family who are always there to support me. The world would be a horrible place if it Hitler rose above and killed of the Jewish race. These actions showed what kind of person that Hitler truly was and even though he thought he was perfect, He was far from it. The holocaust was a sad and depressing time in many people’s lives and as a whole we should never let such a thing happen again. I think about how they must have went through much suffering because of Hitler. I believe that the Holocaust will always be one of the worst killing sprees this world ever will have. The holocaust was probably the worst thing about the war and I understand that the bounty on a Jew was 2$. So if someone ratted one out they must have been in desperate need of money. Also when I think about The holocaust I think about the gas chambers and the ashes from the Jews that they cremated. I Always think of the word death and Hitler. I also know that their was at the least 11 million Jews killed in Concentration camps. More things that come to mind are children and how they are separated from their family’s. The Germans also took the possessions of the Jews that they took to the Concentration camps. They would get all the valuable stuff and sell it and if it were gold they would melt it down into liquid. Oct 7, 2010 When I think of the word “Holocaust” I think about the inhumane treatment against the millions of innocent people in Europe. I start to think of all Jewish, Roma, and homosexuals who were killed because they were different. I also think of the ignorant leaders who were involved in this terrible plot to create something beyond their control. I feel that Hitler was a cruel person who was racist and ignorant. He took all of his past misfortunes out on HUMAN PEOPLE. I think of how some Germany propaganda tried to make the Holocaust out to be less graphic and as raw as it really was. Prejudice comes to my mind also, because of all of the other people who judged these people because of something they had no control over. For those people who stood for that type of punishment and humiliation against someone else…they in my opinion were just as guilty as Hitler himself in many ways. I think of how I do not have to deal with the same prejudices toward any race or myself and I am thankful. I also think of other genocides that took place and are taking place right now. Some examples are Darfur, Bosnia, and Rwanda. KaylaDawn Oct 8, 2010 When I think of the Holocaust I think of murder. The Holocaust was a tragic and horrifying event that took place in our world. Millions of innocent people died because of one mad man and his followers. They were killed in many different manners. For instance, some were killed in gas chambers, medical experiments were done, and others were just shot on the spot. Men, women, and children were all murdered in this horrendous event. Families were split up into different camps and places. Some never to see their brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, etc again. I think that it is absolutely shocking that anyone would even think about doing such things to other human beings. I believe that Adolf Hitler was an awful, sick man who should have never been put to power in the first place. His followers were crazy for believing the words that he said and for carrying out his repulsive plans. It also surprises me that the rest of the world just was sitting around and doing nothing about this situation when they knew what was happening. I believe it is wrong to ignore such a alarming issue. I think that Hitler and the Nazis were horrible people and that the Holocaust should have never took place or at least to the extent that it did. angeladegraffenreaidt Oct 8, 2010 When I think about the holocaust I think of how multiples of Jews lost their lives just because someone hated them. And how so many lost their lives for a reason that many of us today should be ashamed of. Many of innocent little faces, babies, toddlers and even elderly people were murdered all because of what they believed in or their religious beliefs. When I think of the holocaust I become upset, just thinking of taking someone else’s life just because they look different or believe in something that’s different. It’s wrong to dislike someone just because they’re different. Hilter was a very convincing dictator, he had the power to brainwash the Nazi’s into killing millions of innocent people. His plot was to make the Jewish population go extinct completely. He wanted a pure race, with blond hair and blue eyes. There are many theories of why Hitler created the Holocaust; some say it’s was because of his mother’s death, his mother was being treated by a Jewish Doctor. Another theory is that he applied to arts school but was not accepted, but then some Jewish students were. But I believe the real theory was pure hatred. I believe that Hitler murdered millions of Jews just because he hated them. I believe that hate is such strong emotion that it will consume your whole body and take over. Trevorstinson Oct 8, 2010 When I hear the word Holocaust I think of the many Jews, Germans, German SS Officers, Allies, World War II, deaths, concentration camps, Hitler, cowards, fire, ashes, and the heroes who hid Jews, Schendlers list, of the very few Jewish holocaust survivors, the many hidden Jews and starvation. Holocaust also makes me think of hatred, prejudice, race, and religion. The Holocaust makes me think how there is such a person like Hitler that could kill over 11 million people, this makes me think that there might be someone today who is out there who might start the same thing and kill twice as many people because America is more advanced today. The Holocaust makes me think about why our government didn’t step in till the end of Hitler’s jealousy. This makes me think our government may have been a part of it! The Holocaust to me was the worst thing that has ever happened in the world. I think Hitler was a greedy, Jew hating show off. Hitler was also a Jew that’s why he killed himself when the Americans finally got there. I also think of the time when we visited the holocaust museum in Washington D.C meeting a man who was a survivor. The biggest thing I think of is pictures that I have seen or the Jew running or walking in the concentration camps, and seeing how skinny they were makes me think of who in there right mind would what to do this kind of thing to a person. The worst part of is all is that the German though they were doing the right thing, as doing a favor for all the people that hated the Jew or did something to them. I think about innocent people loosing their lives, I think about death camps. I think about the millions of Jews and others killed in the unfair cruelty of the holocaust. I think of Anne Frank, I think of people betraying innocent Jews and sending them to their deaths. I think ‘how could people so young, or so elderly be killed for no reason?’ I think ‘why would Hitler want to wipe out an entire race of people?’ ‘How could others stand by and watch as he conquered Germany and brainwashed so many?’ I think about a mother, losing her child in a death camp. I think about a little boy taking a nap in the cold snow and never waking up. I think about two sisters with nothing left but each other, and then one day they can’t find each other in the Ghetto. I think about a child born in a death camp, that knows not a single thing, about the incredible mass murder occurring around them, and they have no way out. I think about a man, screaming, as his lungs are being gassed. I think about a woman, being stripped naked, and having her head shaved, being humiliated in front of many. I think about a SS officer lining up Jews, and blasting their souls and watching as they fall, then leaving them there. I think that the holocaust is a very upsetting topic but we also must learn from it, so it never occurs again. | ||
