![]() So last night my computer stopped reading my gaming hard drive which has P1999 as well as every other game I play installed on it. I had recently gotten home from a friends house and I had brought my computer with me so naturally I thought it was a loose connection. After inspecting the cables I found that the cable which connected the drive to my motherboard was damaged. I removed the cable and put the hard drive in different bay and reconnected it to the motherboard with a different cable but my computer is still not reading the drive. I can hear it spinning so I know its powering up. Any ideas on what could be going on?

![]() You may have to change a setting in the BIOS to make sure it is detecting the cable swap / drive bay change. It's been some years but I think if you press F2 when it first starts up you can get to the BIOS (( it could be F10 or some other key depending the system too)). hth~

![]() Someone else said I might have to reassign it a hard drive letter. It may be something that simple. I will have to try that when I get home from work. I know the drive itself is not corrupt so I think it's something simple like that.

![]() Hard drives are generally plug and play these days. You definitely shouldn't need to assign a drive letter, but you may need to assign it to a particular controller card in your BIOS.

![]() Yeah there are a lot of spots on my motherboard which had cables that were previously attached to nothing. Right now I just moved the hard drive to a different bay and attached it to a cable that was previously not in use. My computer installed new hard drive software and rebooted automatically but after the reboot the drive is not visible only my SSD drive and storage drive are visible under device management.

![]() I will check that first thing when I get home. I will have to put this on the back burner for the rest of the day but thank you guys for the info. If I can't get it to work I will ask for some more advice!

![]() Okay at this point I am thinking that the hard drive may be shot. I reconnected it to the mother board and plugged it back into the exact same SATA port it was plugged into before. I can hear the hard drive spin but it is not visible in dsc management tool. Any other ideas?
