Right now necros are fairly unplayable in pvp. It takes a perfect play to be able to beat an equally geared melee, which is easily countered by someone that uses pumice and cure pots as they will make you oom fairly quickly if they counter ur dots (pyrocuror and vexing morodinia can be countered in 1 pumice click; that is over 895 mana and 10 sec cast worth of dot gone in single 3 second click of a 15pp item).
From memory splurt/pyrocuror needed 3-4 pumice clicks or more to get rid of, which makes more sense than it does right now.
What about necro pets you say? There is no reference of damage being increased in any of the patch notes up until the 2004 reference for pet damage, so why they have nerfed the damage to 59 on a max summon EOT based on a random forum post confuses the hell out of me.
Post spell fix, necros are more viable, however pure melee still wreck you with an insanely high hit rate if they get close (non classic), so you will need to kite and position yourself in out of easily reached places.

Yeah on live you needed way more than one click of pumice to dispel Splurt, and dispel often times took out your good buffs and kept the dot on. Here, you just keep the first slot open, click, it's off. Very non-classic, very bad for dot classes.
I'm under the impression that pets are bugged, in that they don't follow moving targets properly, and thus miss a lot, plus they don't proc dw/double attack enough, and they do not hit for full damage as much as they did on live.
I think I will one day jump on live and see how hard/how often they hit on people, because here it's so bad they're not worth casting.
