Possible to run on a mac?

Is there a way to get this working on a Mac w/o a copy of windows?

I got bootcamp and windows XP up and operational. Installed EQ Titanium per the setup guide. When i try to log into the server I get the connection to the server could not be reached. I know there are issues with multi-core processors, but would they make it so I couldn't log in?
I think I covered all the stupid fixes. I reinstalled as well to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Virutalize linux then use wine? Honestly though, don't ever do that. Install Windows.

You changed your eqhosts file to point at the correct server?

solution: get a pc, having a mac might make you awesome to stupid college girls who think the lulz guy from the commercials is hot, or maybe at your 9-5 gig at the office where you can compare how supperior you mac users are to pc people. but pc's are better, prove me wrong. preferably in eq, oh shit you cant play because you have a mac lulz.

I play in Parallels Desktop 6 without many problems. EQ's gamma correction is the only feature that doesn't work but you can use Mac OS X's Display Preferences to calibrate the gamma point (turn on advanced settings when going into Display Calibration.)

I've played under Bootcamp w/ XP too but I dislike having to boot into Windows.

This is so wrong on so many levels. Not everyone who buys a mac thinks OMG i am so leet with my mac, and you are so ghey with your PC. Why are Mac's better in ways, and I am firm on the "in ways," is that they are a more stable computer. The operating system is more stable in so many ways it's not even funny. I own a MacBook Pro, AND a custom Gaming Windows 7 Desktop machine. I use my Macbook for school, as the battery gets me up to 7 hours of life. Also for gaming it does very well with bootcamp. My desktop, I use to play graphic intensive games like Fallout New Vegas. I don't wish to warp and burn my motherboard on my laptop so I don't game heavily on it.

Generally since I can dual boot, OSX and Windows 7 on my mac (something PC's can't do easily), I was able to run some tests for my own knowledge. First off, boot times from a cold start, OSX is up in 40seconds. Windows 7, 1min 30. iTunes opens up in OSX in about 10s while in Windows 7, it opens in 24s. Steam opens in about 14s in OSX and 38s in Windows 7. World of Warcraft, I used this because I can't run the same EQ client in both games and it's a good measurement for lag and frame rates, run at Medium on both, OSX ~40-60fps, Windows 7 ~20-30. Both are playable, yet in OSX I have flexibility to add more options and still be a higher FPS than Win7.

Basically what this means is that OSX, the way it was programed optimizes the components a lot better than Windows 7 does. It boosts the CPU and Ram when needed and idles them when it doesn't need them as much. You might think well that's great for saving energy and great on battery life but not much more. No, it also prolongs the life of your components because there is less of a load on them so they have time to relax.

Get over the whole Mac sucks because it's a college student laptop and it's just to be apart of a stupid club. No, not everyone is all OMG OMG OMG I have to have this shinny computer and pay out the ass for it. Yes, mac is expensive, but I felt my laptop was well worth the price. I have never owned a computer I can rely on, and I have owned many windows machines.

Get out of your mindset. Let people make their decisions. I use my laptop, as I said, for school. I'm going for a Web Design and Interactive Media degree, so I use adobe's programs which run amazingly on it. I can render in Photoshop so quickly, Illustrator which always gave me problems on my desktop, runs perfectly on my mac.

Just because someone prefers a mac over a PC doesn't mean they suck or are losers. My opinions here are in the middle. I prefer to use my Mac for school, and I use my Desktop to play games. If someone wants to use their mac and run Bootcamp, because that option is available, let them.

In all fairness to Windows though, you aren't running a standard instance of it, and extra things need to load (virtual drivers for one) for Windows to start. You may also have more programs loading at startup, etc. There are many variables that make this test moot.

I've only been a Mac owner for a little over a month, but personally I already dislike the OS (it has no real value to me), but I absolutely love my physical machine. I wish I could have got my Macbook pro shipped with a Windows 7/Fedora 13 dualboot. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Yes you are right, but I start the timing on after I choose the boot from the boot menu. The only thing Win 7 has to start up is the essentials, it's a builders copy so it has no crap ware, plus boot camp. Compared to my desktop it may, MAY add an extra 5 seconds, regardless it's still way slower to load than OSX. There are no "virtual drivers." I'm just loading the real drivers that run the hardware, and make windows start it. It's not like trying to make a hackintosh where you have to get OSX to bypass the fact that there's a chip in the hardware.

Like I said I still prefer to game on my desktop. I use a 20.1" monitor which I prefer over my 15" laptop.

Every benchmark ever posted about OSX vs Windows7 3d performance has Win7 simply owning OSX. OSX opengl development is always on the backburner, it is far from optimized and missing many features of it's Windows counterpart. The same goes for video drivers in OSX, they stink. Not to forget you're not even running WoW in opengl but directx mode under Win7.

If you're a student who want's to buy an overpriced laptop with great battery life, get a Mac. If you like to game then don't waste your money and get a PC.
