[S] The Spectre Spiritualist [53 Monk, HS South]

Closest fight I've had since starting the checklist. I was still learning the ropes of the HS South cubby area so I decided to play it safe and clear out the other two mobs in preparation for the PH spawn. This backfired, and due to an unlucky few charm breaks I had less than 40% hp and a weak rune when the named spawned. I engaged anyways, and everything was going smoothly:

But charm breaks happen at the worst times, and to make matters worse I accidentally cast single target mez on my former pet instead of AE mez. Fortunately I was able to channel out an AE mez in the nick of time:

All I had left to do was recharm pet, reroot the named, and pray both held until I was able to recast bedlam and rune. Fortunately they did, and I was rewarded with (not so) phat loots:

Not gonna post updates of the rest of the HS South named since they all went much more smoothly, though killshots are in the checklist thread if anyone is interested.

I've been trying to solo as much of the enchanter epic as I can. I had a feeling that Cazel was soloable, so I did some testing and found that the level 45 gypsy merchant with WR and torch could just about keep up with his regen. Fortunately I found a friend for her:

Rooted, hasted, and torched both, then I charmed Cazel and introduced him to the two lovely ladies. The plan was coming together:

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I manually broke charm when Cazel was at 3%, but my root on him had already faded so he began to run away. Fortunately I was able to root him while he was still in melee range of one of the merchants, who I immediately charmed and sent on him. Then it was simply a matter of nuking him down as fast as I could:

Success! And the reward for my hard work:

Nice work on Cazel. I didn't think you could nuke fast enough to beat his regen! Reverse charming is so great [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

[S] The Crypt Feaster [52 Warrior, HS South] 10/01/2014
Went down into South this morning with a Guildie. There was an A-Team shaman killing phs while I was down there the night before and both of his spawns were named this morning (and his corpse was there [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] ) The cave named was the 53 monk guy. So Necran and I took him out real quick. Then he FD and afked while I calmed the trap room and killed the Feaster. Really pretty straight forward. Cast Sight/calm etc etc used the pather as a pet and took him out easy. got a blood point out of it. We ended up staying for another hour or so and got a bunch more spawns including another hoop and the feaster rng aoe dagger.

Done with South. Back to Crypt and maybe a stop off in Kedge

[S] The tangrin [54 Warrior, Field of Bone]

Today started pretty poorly with two failures to solo Harbinger Frelgor in Seb, but the end of the day made up for it.

Late Tuesday night I checked the tangrin and saw that he was up and attempted to come up with a strategy to take him out. An hour and a half later, I had died three times and the tangrin had been taken down by the cabilis guards, leaving no body behind. At least I knew when he was going to respawn!

The tricks to the tangrin fight are 1) not getting hit by monkey stun, 2) making sure you get credit for the kill. This is much easier said than done, but I came up with a strategy that seemed about as foolproof as it could get with the spells I have (i.e. not Dictate). If I had dictate my strategy would have been a bit different, but I digress.

Once verifying that the tangrin was up, I put my plan into action. The weakest part of the plan was that charm had to hold for at least 2 minutes at the beginning of the fight, but I wasn't unlucky and it held as long as I needed.

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Once that was done, I was able to relax and enjoy the show. My money is on the small lizard thing:

Once tangrin was low, I decided to step into the ring myself for the killsteal.

Headshot!

[S] a Howling Spectre [54 Monk, HS East]

After killing the tangrin I tried Sebilis again, but it was still camped. I didn't have time to camp fire giants and now that I've finished every HS South named, the only option left to me was to give HS East a try. My first exploratory probe in the hallways leading from south to east showed me that a Howling Spectre was up, but my first attempt on him was a failure and I had to hat out. I recharged my hat and headed back in. Fortunately I was lucky with lulls to make it back in, as a single critical failure would have probably forced me to hat out again.

I calmed the roamer that was too high to Allure, then opened with an AE mez on the other roamer and the named to start off the fight:

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Notice the slow resist. That was a constant theme throughout the fight...it took four casts for the first slow to stick and another two for the second one.

Turns out I had mezzed the named too close to the far room and, one by one, his friends began showing up, and me with about 20% mana, I was praying that charm would hold. Here I am as the named is getting low, and you can see me juggling three extra mobs on top of my pet and the named:

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

1% left, praying that charm would continue to hold. If charm had broken here I couldn't have recovered with as little mana I had, and I would have been forced to hat out.

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Fortunately my pet stayed loyal long enough to finish off the mob and allow me to loot + gate:

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Blood has been spilled in HS East! The kill itself was easier than I expected, but I had a lot of good luck on my side. Hopefully this good luck holds as I try to finish off the rest of HS East.

[S] Arch Duke Iatol [55 Shadowknight, Sebilis Crypt]

After a couple rounds of killing phs in crypt, Duke spawned, wielding nothing.

Attempt 1: Charm break, used slant + AE mez, pet was dotted so broke mez, killed me before I could hat. Ran all the way from Seb zonein to Cabilis (almost dying along the way to see-invis frogloks in TT), grabbed my spare stalking probe, gated back, and lulled my way down to crypt. Died at crypt door; didn't think the two frogs would aggro the probe. Rebuffed, zoned back in, and lulled my way down once more and made it through the door just to have a crit lull resist on the first pack. Was able to AE mez, but was low HP so I decided to make a run for it after rooting the mobs. Got aggro from the dar roamer + one friend he decided to bring with him, channeled another AE mez + roots, invised into safe spot in crypt and logged off, with a Fetter break with 5 seconds left.

I logged back in, grabbed my corpse, buffed up and prepped for attempt #2

Attempt 2: Decided not to haste the pet (harbinger ph) so that I could handle charm breaks better. Stun resist on charm break ended with me eating a dot before I could regain control, then a second charm break forced me to hat out with 10% hp left. Fortunately there were two druids at the WC rings, so naturally I pleaded for a heal. The first druid, Shaston from Taken, started casting a heal, then ducked to interrupt it and sat down. Thanks buddy! Fortunately the other one, Shabuffya, wasn't a sociopath so she hit me with a heal when I was at 1% and I was able to survive. I recharged my hat, gated back to Seb, and lulled my way back down again.

Attempt 3:

[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Third time's the charm. Allure held throughout the fight, but I'm confident I could have handled a break just fine.

Solo master!

Good work! Necro mobs are no joke when they are high enough to resist stuns, and HS is no cakewalk without invis pulls. Imo there is an eaiser way to handle HS named kills than in the spot you are using though, thanks to the way assist aggro works [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

After soloing all of HS North and all of West a couple times, I've been trying South wing when it's not camped (which is rarely i'm finding!). As Tecmos said, even though there's a lot of help going around, there is still a huge learning curve. First thing I've found is when there's a see invis mob (usually a bile or two, or three) up between dropoff and the cave cubby, you can ivu to edge of painting, target mobs, use shifting sight as needed and one by one lull the see invis mobs so you can run though. Another thing I've learned the hard way is to keep 1 or 2 stalking probes in the bank so you dont have to rely on a necro or rog to get back to your corpse that's stuck in south wing!

First time in cubby Crypt Feaster was up. I lulled the roamer and the first cubby mob, then charmed pet (which of course aggroed Feaster), ran back to get away from the pather that was coming back, rooted Feaster and he went down easily. 1 or 2 summons maybe and no charm breaks. Bloodpoint.

Second time, Embalming Fluid was up so i tried same strat (lull pather, lull 1 of the cave mobs, charm pet, run back to spot and root). But this time, the fucking Fluid is so massive that i didnt pull it back far enough, roamer added, charm broke, summoned, dead. Ouch...had to CR and log for the night.

Third time, PH was up so i lulled pather, lulled 1 cave mob, charmed a sperm which aggroed the PH (sepulcher). I knew I would take the HT here, so that was no surprise, I ran my pet and PH back to my spot, rooted sepulcher, bedlamed, runed back up. But the sepulcher kept breaking fetter and summoned me 2 or 3 times, each time requiring me to re-bedlam. So mana was getting low and i was about 50% HP. Finally got it under control, he was going down (SLOWLY), and root and charm broke at the same time. I slanted, recharmed with Boltrans, and while trying to re-root sepulcher i caught another HT and couldn't cap out in time.

I'm gathering that (some?) sepulchers break fetter more frequently than others? Maybe I should have charmed PH (sepulcher) instead and let him and sperm fight it out. Also I'm trying to learn what's best when you get summoned + charm break at the same time (seems to happen regularly for me). I've been slanting, boltrans, then trying to root while getting beat on. Need to try something different...

On charming, I know a lot use Allure and surely that's better than what I've been doing since it has a much lower mana cost than Boltrans. The only reason I typically use Boltrans is that you can Slant and re-charm without getting hit. I think I need to working Allure into my strat.
