Question about a "server timeline" concept mentioned in last nights stream

As a new player to the server who missed the pre-kunark days, this is definitely appealing.

Would the population really be an issue? I would have thought a server like that would cycle in lots of older/inactive players, especially those who are going to want to race to all the firsts.
