Old timers in England use "pop" as well. The rest of us call them fizzy drinks here [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Actually this would make pretty bad soap. I made soap out of bacon fat once (I don't recommend that) I prefer using unrefined coconut/castor/olive oil.

x 10 plus years as hobbyist in soap making.

Don't have to eat especially healthy foods. Just don't eat too much relative to your activity level. As noted above, avoiding pop or other sugary drinks is also a good way to keep away from useless calories. Maintaining a decent activity level probably helps some as well. Sitting on the computer playing video games 50 hours a week won't typically promote weight loss unless you're so addicted that you forget to eat, too. Heck it's summer. I haven't even played a video game since about June.

I suspect the most important factor in staying slim is the very desire to stay slim: Once a person accepts being overweight, he'll probably stay that way.

Everyone wants that magic pill or atkins diet. The real magic is getting off your ass and go outside and put forth the effort.
And it really doesn't take much effort, either.

I was talking more about how, at least in my area, fat free, sugar free, or low fat foods etc. cost more than their counterparts.

Salt may taste good too... But it is also extremely unhealthy.

Mass processed meat = no bueno... 1 lb of hamburger at your local grocer has meat in it from upwards of 50-100 animals.

Talk about disgusting.

And don't even get me started on fast food...

Protein additives = .... wait for it... grub worms.

Don't believe me... research it for yourself, and while you're at it, take notice of the even more disgusting protein additives...

Enjoy life everyone!

In the US, most people do not live within walking distance of a grocery store. The closest one to my house is about 3 miles (walkable, yeah, but an hour each way?). Stores in my area don't typically deliver, though there might be third-party services. I heard the rather expensive Whole Foods store will getting this service soon. There are convenient stores closer, but they don't really sell that sort of thing-- no produce, no frozen veggies.

But we got the cool dude called Mr. Okra that drives a truck around the city.
