Wierd,
Just came across this after I forgot to plug in the power cord, so the laptop went into hibernate with EQ running. When I came back I had this error and it still occured after restarting. Fix works as described, in Win 7: right click shortcut -> Compatibility -> Run in 640x480 window Which quick changes your desktop resolution down for the server select screen but then the game is fine at full res at character select and ingame.
