/target, /assist, /rtarget don't allow one to watch the field. See how many mobs are coming into camp, see where they are coming and then use /rtar to start a CH early on someone who may need it in the very near future.
To be honest though, that was mostly in jest, since we have non-classic scroll wheel and can scroll between 1st and 3rd person so easily. But short races still suck. Elves ftw.
