I just finished my screaming mace quest not half an hour ago.
I think that's a great lowbie proc weapon. It doesn't damage the mob, but it buffs you.

It doesn't really generate any aggro, though, and the ratio isn't very good. It's certainly fine if you're upgrading from short sword*, but it's fairly easy to get even cheap non-proc weapons with reasonable ratios like dwarven axe or dragoon dirk.

Let me advocate PGT again. This is the way to go until level 20, and possibly even a little further. The proc makes a very noticeable difference in your survivability up until then, and you can even solo to 20 with it if the rest of your gear isn't terrible. On top of that, the proc is decent aggro with the added benefit if being AoE aggro that doesn't break CC or aggro nearby neutral mobs. It functions sort of like healing someone: you get aggro with everything currently fighting you, even thought he proc itself doesn't directly affect the mobs. I found myself occasionally using it even well into my 20s, because warriors are notoriously bad at holding more than one mob, but if people assist properly and don't use AoE spells recklessly, you can manage just fine with an early proc or two. Then it gradually becomes less useful as the absorb shield doesn't scale as fast as mob damage and you need more and more aggro generation to hold aggro from DPS classes. The shard's proc does generate more aggro on the one target you apply it to.

2H weapons are an alternatively route for low-level warriors, who don't want to camp Painbringer or can't afford Obsidian Shards outright at level 16. To paraphrase it: there is no reason to care about 1H and dual-wield before you can acquire those Shards or at least a PB. PGT procs sort of a "mini rune" but the aggro mod is subpar to obsidian shatter. So if you purchase one, rather put it off hand.

That said, for 2H weapons are two points to ponder. First, there is a damage cap of 20 up to level 10, and 40 from level 10-20. Second, you won't get more than 2x weapon base damage until level 20. That renders weapons with high damage/delay, like Executioners Axe, almost as useless as a bronze sword, and Axe of the Slayers doesn't proc below level 30.

The best weapon for a newbie warrior is the EC tunnel + your best begging hat. Go ask the closest mage for a damage shield and run up with your fists blazing! Seems to work great till about 15. To all you mages out there, your welcome for this post [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

So which of these weapons start proccing at what levels? I'm finding online that Obsidian Shard procs at 16 and PGT at 10 - is this correct? Also, the PGT proc is just a self-buff+self-debuff; does that generate noticeable aggro?

Say I'm a level 9 or a level 15 warrior in Crushbone. What are my options for drawing aggro? It sounds from this thread like up to 10 I should just rely on DPS, up to 16 I should rely on PGT, and after that I can use obsidian shards. TBH I'm liking the tentacle whip for 1-9 since the lifetap effect is noticeable then, even if it doesn't draw much extra aggro and the base DPS of the weapon is low; I plan to pump a lot of dex on my warrior early on.

Also, with regard to dual wielding: are offhand weapons less likely to proc just because you're less likely to hit with them, or do they proc less per hit as well? When you have dual wield mastered, how often do you hit with your offhand?

Its been stated many times on these forums that your main hand is gonna proc 2x as much as your offhand. Whether that is due to your dual wield checks or not I couldn't tell you, just know that that 2:1 is the rough ratio.

As for drawing "aggro" in crushbone at 9, the warrior and ranger and rogue are all gonna have somewhat similar ac/hps/evasion, and none of the 3 are getting complete healed, so it's not a huge concern.

And yeah, you're right, the lifetap whip is essentially EQ godmode levels 1-10, enjoy it while it lasts. It's my favorite weapon to give out in greater faydark by far [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.].

Polished Granite Tomahawk works well due to the proc being a rune which draws immense aggro. If I were starting a non twink warrior, funding myself solely through drops and /random in groups, I'd buy a PGT asap.

However, like everyone else has identified Obsidian Shards are definitely what you're shooting for until you either save 9k for a yak or win one.

Well, I wouldn't call it immense aggro, but it's a fairly decent amount and it applies to all the mobs you're fighting, whether or not they're currently hitting you. And in places like Crushbone, the PGT proc usually absorbs several hits; I was able to tank without any healing whatsoever as long as it was one mob at a time. Even if the aggro from the proc is somewhat less than that of O-shard on a single mob, the absorb makes it far better until upwards of level 20, plus the fact that it's AoE aggro at a time when crowd control generally doesn't happen. You also need far less aggro in general at those levels because your DPS isn't significantly worse than the actual DPS classes, and because people don't die in five seconds if they take aggro.

and you'll stink at holding aggro, because it isn't an aggro proc.
